  • Beef – 500 grams
  • For cooking beef:
  • Coconut oil – 3 tablespoons
  • Garlic (chopped) – 2 teaspoons
  • Ginger (chopped) – 2 teaspoons
  • Onions (medium-sized, sliced) – 2 numbers
  • Green chillies (chopped) – 2 numbers
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water – 1/4 cup
  • For tempering beef:
  • Coconut oil – 3 teaspoons
  • Coconut flakes – 2 teaspoons
  • Garlic (chopped) – 2 teaspoons
  • Ginger (chopped) – 2 teaspoons
  • Red onions (sliced) – 3 numbers
  • Green chillies (chopped) – 2 numbers
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Crushed peppercorns – 2 teaspoons

Method for beef ularthiyathu

  1. Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pan

Ingredients

For cooking beef

  • 500 grams Beef
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp Garlic chopped

For Tempering beef

  • 3 tsp Coconut oil
  • 2 tsp Coconut flakes

  • 3 numbers Red onions medium sized sliced
  • 2 numbers Green chillies chopped
  • 1 sprigs Curry leaves
  • 2 tsp Crushed black peppercorns

Instructions

  • Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a pan
  • Add chopped garlic, ginger, sliced onion and green chillies
  • Saute till golden brown
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder,garam masala, cumin powder, salt to taste and saute till masala leaves the oil
  •  Add 4 tbsp of water to the cooked masala, blend it into a smooth paste
  • Marinate beef with the blended masala and refrigerate for half an hour
  • Cook beef in a pan (add enough water if it's getting dry)
  • If the beef is too hard, cook in a pressure cooker adding 1/2 cup of water.
  • Cook the beef till done and keep aside

For tempering beef ularthiyathu

  • In a pan, heat 3 tbsp of oil and add 2 tbsp of coconut flakes and saute for two minutes
  • Add ginger, garlic, red onions, green chillies, curry leaves and cook till golden brown
  • Mix in the cooked beef
  • Cook till the beef is dry
  • Add crushed peppercorns
  • Your Kerala style beef ularthu is ready
