Cabbage thoran / Mild spiced sautéed cabbage
Garnishes play an important role in food presentation. It can be defined as “Food items placed around or on top of a principal dish for a relish”. A careful selection of garnishes that have flavour, colour, and eye appeal is appreciated and is accepted as a finished dish.
In this post we are doing cabbage thoran/ mild spiced sautéed cabbage in an arc shape. Arcs add fluidity and a sense of motion to a presentation.
Cabbage Thoran is one of the favourite side dish of Kerala Cuisine. Any Kerala Sadhya is incomplete without Cabbage Thoran. Cabbage Thoran is a stir fry made using cabbage and coconut.

Thank you SKD?
Stunning to look at and I am sure delicious to eat. I have never heard of this Thoran … I will give it a try (but I can guarantee it won’t look 5 star like yours!)
Hi Osyth, thoran is an easy sautéed side dish from kerala. It can be other vegetables like carrots, beans, cauliflower etc.. procedures are almost the same. Give it a try, it’s too easy. If I can do it, any body can do it:)
Thus inspired, I will. I love cabbage so I will start there. But then again I love carrots and beans and cauliflower and pretty much every vegetable so I can see I will be Thoranising everything!
Haha I will keep that “thoranising” as an asset for my future reference?
?
Again a masterpiece that looks to good to eat! What type of figs are you using for the center?
Hi Dyanna, figs is not a specified garnish for thoran. I just kept it as a tutorial for presentation.
