Ingredients to make Vendakka Mezhukkupuratti:

  • Okra/ ladies finger – 10 nos
  • Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Onion – 1 nos
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Coconut oil – 3 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tablespoon
  • Salt to taste

How to make Vendakka Mezhukkupuratti:

Time needed: 10 days, 15 hours and 25 minutes.

Vendakka Mezhukkupuratti recipe:

  1. Step 1

    Wash the okra very well and slice it into 1 inch pieces.

  2. Step 2

    Heat 3 tablespoon coconut oil in a pan and put the mustard seeds.

  4. Step 4

    When it splits and pops add onion, and sauté  till it turns golden brown

  5. Put the turmeric powder and ½ tablespoon pepper powder into it and stir well. To this vendakka stir fry, add curry leaves and salt to taste.

  6. Step 6

    Combine well and cook it covered about 8 minutes on a low flame.

  7. Step 7

    Open the lid, add remaining ½ teaspoon pepper powder and cook it for another 2 minutes. Stir it occasionally. Remove from flame and transfer it to a serving dish. Vendakka fry in kerala style is ready to serve hot.
